Are you planning to renovate your home?

Self-storage units available for Steeles of Stamford customers

Most of us will take on some form of home renovation at some point, from simple changes such as redecorating a room to large projects like building an extension, renovating, or rebuilding an entire home.

According to the 2025 UK Houzz & Home Study, more than half of homeowners renovated their homes in 2024 (51%) and 3 in 5 (60%) completed decoration projects. So, if you are thinking about renovating, you’re in good company.

Preparing your home for a renovation project is no mean feat, and it begins with creating enough space to work in. This can cause disruption in other areas of your home, even if you are extending the property. Knocking down walls can cause even more disruption, with some of your space being temporarily out of use, not to mention the noise, dust and distraction that comes with any building project.

Rather than feeling lost in boxes and furniture, why not move some things into storage? At Steeles of Stamford, we offer tailored storage services for short and long-term usage. Read on to find out the different ways of arranging temporary storage.

Managed storage facilities

Professional storage facilities allow you to store your belongings in wooden crates, which we’ll bring to your home and pack for you. As they’re being packed, an itemised inventory will be created so we know exactly what’s being packed and what condition items are in.

Once everything is packed up, the crates are then transported to our secure facility and redelivered when it is convenient for you. This is a practical option if there are items you don’t need regular access to but want to keep out of the way during the renovation process.

Self-storage

If you opt for self-storage, you’ll gain access to a secure container that you pack yourself, with the convenience of 24/7 access for whenever it suits you. Most storage companies use old shipping containers for this, which offer a space of around 20ft x 8ft x 8ft – similar to a single garage.

Our containers are semi-new, having been used to transport cargo for one trip across the ocean before arriving at our HQ to begin a new life as self-storage containers. Our containers have plenty of ventilation, and they’re raised off the floor so the air can circulate freely, keeping the contents safe from mould and water. They also have several locking points, so you can add your own padlocks as well as the heavy-duty one we provide for extra peace of mind.

This is an ideal choice if you require regular access to your belongings and prefer a hands-on approach to storage that’s secure, flexible and easy to access.

Storage at home

If you have extra space outside your house, you can arrange for a storage container to be delivered directly to your home. Containers are available in a range of sizes, making them suitable for everything from large furniture to smaller household items. This will give you immediate access to your belongings from the convenience of your home, although you do have to have the space available on your property and stay on top of maintenance.

The quality of home storage containers can vary, with condensation and a lack of ventilation making some models prone to the buildup of mould and water damage. Generally, if you don’t need something day-to-day, it’s a lot easier to store belongings somewhere else where none of this is a problem.

Making renovations easier

Whether big or small, making improvements to your home can be incredibly rewarding, helping you to appreciate your space even more. While the process of making changes is sometimes stressful, proper storage solutions can make a real difference.
